CM Air Curtain
Please help warm up Chatham Marketplace and save a lot of energy too!
It is cold at Chatham Marketplace. Shoppers and diners flow in and out of the Co-op’s front entrance. Unfortunately, cold air flows in those same doors, leaving the cashier area and the café frigid. One of the most frequent suggestions Chatham Marketplace receives from its owners and shoppers is to warm up the café.

Ingrid’s son, Tai knows how to keep warm!
To bring some warmth to the front of the store, Chatham Marketplace would like to install a device that works by blowing a curtain of air across the doorway opening. Conditioned air from the inside of the door cannot pass out of the door and the outside air cannot enter through this invisible barrier. The Co-op would benefit from this during the summer as well, when cool air from inside the door would be held in, and hot air from the outside would be kept out. Chatham Marketplace has explored other energy-saving options, like airlock-style doors, but determined that there is not enough space for such an improvement.
After reviewing the energy savings projections of Chatham Marketplace’s plan, Abundance Foundation has decided to help the Co-op raise the funds to install this air curtain as soon as possible.

“Brrrr….Please get us an Air Curtain soon!!!!” says David Komurek.
Chatham Marketplace’s front doors are open for about two hours all together per day, with an estimated loss of 900,000 BTU*, or 264 kilowatt-hours, each heating day. That is the equivalent of burning 110 100-watt light bulbs for 24 hours a day.
By installing an air curtain, Chatham Marketplace will save 720,000 BTU* or 210 kilowatt-hours, each heating day. Installing an air curtain will be like turning off 88 of those 110 100-watt light bulbs! With an average of 151 heating days per year, Chatham Marketplace could save as much as 109 million BTU*, or 31,936 kilowatt-hours per year. With a generous correction for the power required to run the air curtain, the air curtain manufacturer estimates that Chatham Marketplace would be able to save as much as $1,410 per year on electricity.
Help us turn off some lights! We need to raise $3,500 to warm up Chatham Marketplace and save a whole lot of energy! Please make your donation payable to Abundance Foundation with a note to “Warm Up My Co-op.
